Facebook

So, I started a facebook account to maintain contact with some of my friends, so I don't lose them all!! Ha ha. This is so bloody womany.

The lad who sent me the nasty email this week just updated his profile. I sent:

Hope you're alright, just noticed your update. Having a few drinks tomorrow night at my sis's place and I'd love you to join.

Oh my gosh, I am actually playing along with the sappy, womany nonsense.

I am going to work extra hard on my pushups on my knuckles this evening in Taekwondo to make up for this horrendous emasculation.

Update

1. I was about to send a text to ask if I could call over tonight, and then I remembered we live together. Mi piace molto! (I like a lot - but more like it appeals to me, or favours me, a lot).

2. I lost another friend.
The email I received:
I don’t do petty holding things against people but it’s not the first time I’ve said something like this to you and if others have said similar things well maybe eventually the message will get through…….if you want to go through life giving people the impression that you are only interested in “what’s in it for Dr. Shale” and see everyone else as lesser beings that should be honoured to know you……well you may find it difficult to maintain friendships……..maybe you like to surround yourself with people who you feel are inferior to you so that they don’t pose a treat to you……and that’s an insecurity issue that only you can sort out…….I’d doubt for instance that you have ever introduced the Italian to any of your younger good looking male friends and if you did you definitely wouldn’t leave them alone with her for long……..or just maybe you have the right type of personality you need to survive in the financial world it certainly seems to be the reason the country is fucked at the moment……..loads of people just looking after number one…….I personally like the idea of waking up each morning and being able to live with myself……..I believe friendships are about give and take……not just one way traffic where one person just takes and is never around when they are needed to give something back……..sorry if I’m coming across a bit harsh but that’s the impression you give people whether you mean to or not……
My response is a bit:
A. Go fuck yourself.
B. You are a bloke. Toughen the fuck up. You are not on the monthly blob.
C. What the hell are you talking about?
D. Go fuck yourself.

3. I am taking up actuarial exams.

4. Oh, yeah, I am obviously upset about number 2, but I am also really quite offended.

Wedding Plan

We have decided on three things so far:
1. It will be in Italy. This was decided within 25 minutes of the proposal.
2. It will be in May next year.
3. It will be civil, not religious. We decided this last night. She was brought up Catholic but only as a vague tradition, and I was brought up Born Again Christian, but am a rather fundamentalist atheist now. We agreed that lying on our wedding day by giving vows to an entity we do not believe in would not be a good start. Best of all, she suggested it. How sweet. :)

We are going to sit down and draw up a work breakdown structure and a Gantt chart.

My question:
What needs to be planned for a wedding?

Hydrocortisone

Oh my, oh my, it can be bought without prescription!!!!! Yay!!! I am plastered in the stuff. My eczema has been getting to me so much I feel like digging my fingers through my flesh and tearing out a chunk of bone.

On another note: Teething problems. The nobody, anywhere, that follows my blog will know I moved in with my fiance this Saturday. We are in a temporary situation, living with her sister.

I wanted to use the dryer, and asked P to take her sister's clothes out of it, as I did not really want to be moving in one day and handling the girls knickers the next day. P interpreted this as me having a cynical, perverse mind that focused on her sister's knickers. I just did not want anybody to have the opportunity to call me perverse, and thought the easiest thing was to avoid any opportunity for an issue to come up.

Disastrous argument ensues... and one which obviously I cannot win no matter what because it does not even make much sense in the first place, or does it?

Sick

A WOMAN suspected of recruiting more than 80 female suicide bombers has confessed to organising their rapes so she could later convince them that martyrdom was the only way to escape the shame.

My Head

Monday.
My fiance is away for the week. I grabbed a couple of beers with my colleague and a couple of friends on Monday (I do have a couple of friends left, fortunately). It turned out that my friends had been donated some tickets to the annual catering staff bash, so we ended up there drinking too many free beers.

Tuesday.
A guy was over from Germany for work so three of us were taken for dinner. Lots of red wine and gigantic steaks, started off with a pint of guinness on an empty stomach.

Wednesday.
I agreed to go to a gig at 8 this evening.

Thursday.
International conference in the company. Lunch afterwards for the 13 staff in a posh restaurant. There will be copious quantities of wine. After the Christmas party with this group, my hang over went for two days.

Friday.
Well, it is Friday, and my fiance:) is away so I will have to keep myself entertained somehow.

Emotional Instability?

I am stressed, but I am not stressed that I am stressed.

I also took up Tae-kwon-do. It is fun.

More importantly, and most difficult to admit, let me admit a shameful recent event:
My flatmate, and my ex-flatmate, have decided to get a flat together, without me. My ex-flatmate has been a friend of mine for a long time, and my current flatmate is more like a friend of his. Maybe I am feeling the lack of close friends.

I have, in financial parlance, written them down. That is two friends less for good old Dr. bin Agnon, master of popularity.

UTD: Why have I not gotten an invite? Does everybody hate me?

Do I read too much news, if I get through these every day?

1. BBC News.
2. Slashdot.org (News for Nerds - Stuff that Matters).
3. Financial Times (Really well-written and informed).
4. Irish Times (Shite - they think they are the intellectual newspaper of Ireland, but we just do not have one).
5. Wall Street Journal.
6. Bloomberg.com.
7. International Herald Tribune (really interesting and well-written pieces, methinks).
8. Fox News (no kidding - it is hysterical).
9. New York Times (although I almost always think it is a bit crap for what I expected).
10. Washington Post (new one, and still awaiting opinion).
11. BreakingNews.ie (Just crappy little reviews of news as it happens).
12. RTE News (Irish state television - like the BBC).
13. Al Jazeera (a bit dull and whiny though).
14. Forbes.com.
15. La Reppublica (this is a new addition, and I still do not understand most of the headlines. Apparently it is Italy's premier broadsheet).
16. Reuters.
17. Euronews.
18. The Economist (nice and centre-to-right right. I like this a lot, although I could probably be considered left).

I hate Mondays

I am tired and depressed. I cannot be bothered doing this presentation, or the simulations.

I am bored of the internet. Update your blogs already!!

I have eaten so much junkfood, and my taekwondo class is not tonight.

Moan, moan, moan...

My New Computer

I was aiming for €300 or less. I am not going to count the postage and packaging, and declare that I have succeeded.

Now I am going to create my own personal server and telephone exchange for using wherever I am. :)

Hmmm

So, obviously I haven't told my Mom yet.

Proposal

We have been together since April 18th, 2007. The ring is platinum with a round single diamond.

Juju, I was actually advised against a full carat in one of the jewellers, as it would look too big and ostentatious, when I described the size of her teeny-tiny fingers. The thing still looks huge on her hand. We need to get it sized, but I suspect she will also pick a slightly different one.

It is very nice and sparkly, I must say. I was worried it would be nice enough, but having checked them out on others for the last six months when possible, I think it qualifies.

As for how she is accepting it? Well, we are moving in together. I delayed the moving in thing until I had asked her. In Italy, and now more so in Ireland, it is common for couples to live together for a long time without getting married. I do not like that idea. I would move in with her if it was in the back of my mind that I might move out. I only want to move in with her if it is clear that it is to be permanent.
